The Wild Cut

Ireland, Behind the Lens.

A RARE CHANCE TO STEP BEHIND THE LENS AND SEE IRELAND THROUGH AN EMMY AWARD WINNING WILDLIFE FILMMAKER’S EYE.

The Wild Cut is an immersive, one-day experience that invites you into the world of wildlife documentary filmmaking. Led by Emmy Award-winning producer and director Mark McClean, whose work spans landmark productions for the BBC, BBC Earth, National Geographic, and Disney, the day offers rare access to the craft behind some of the world’s most respected nature films.

You’ll spend the day in the field with Mark, choosing between a land-based or sea-based setting, depending on conditions and interest. Ireland’s landscapes and wildlife become both subject and classroom. The focus is not on performance or technical mastery, but on observation, patience, and learning how stories in nature are discovered rather than directed.

Working alongside Mark, you’ll learn how to read light, movement, sound, and behaviour, and how these elements come together to form a compelling narrative. You take part in shaping a real documentary story, grounded in Ireland’s natural world and approached with the same care and discipline as a professional production.

Following the experience, your footage is edited into a short documentary film. The day concludes with a short documentary film, edited from your footage, marking a rare chance to experience Ireland through a filmmaker’s eye.
